One of the main attractions of pursuing distance learning education is the ability to continuing working, and earning a paycheck, while going to school. With the best of both worlds, students do not have to attend classes on campus. In addition, they have the flexibility to study at a personal pace and during the time best suited to their schedule. No wonder obtaining an online degree is enticing more people to further their education.

However, distance learning education is not without certain challenges. Traditional students are spurred on by the interaction with others and attending the lectures. Without a lot of discipline and intrinsic motivation, distance learners can easily get sidetracked by life and fail to keep up with the coursework needed to pass the class. Enjoy the benefits, but do not forget the responsibilities.

Therefore, how can distance learning students then overcome this challenge? One habit that a student must adopt is good time management. There is only 24 hours in a day and it is up to us to utilize our time in the best way possible. Set up a daily or weekly plan for yourself and ensure that you set aside time for your studies daily. If you have a family, let them know about your schedule so that they know when you should not be disturbed. Divide your time appropriately between your work, your family and your studies. Of course, discipline is important here as any schedule will not do any good if it is not followed.

Getting yourself motivated is also essential towards distance learning education success. One of the ways to do this is to stay in contact with your classmates. With the internet today, it is often easy to stay in touch through email, instant messenger as well as internet phone. Discussing projects or assignments with your teammates will help you stay on track and keeps you and your teammates accountable for one another.

Also, do not forget to give yourself a pat on the back once in a while. Set up a calendar of specific goals. When the milestone is reached, reward yourself. Thus, it will be a source of encouragement and help in facing the inevitable hurdles presented by a distance learning education. In essence, it is nice to see and acknowledge personal progress.

Finally, a quiet place to study, away from distractions, is paramount. The television, telephone, and family will be very distracting and take away from quality study. Set times to not be disturbed. If necessary, lock yourself in a quiet room with adequate space to spread out on a table or desk. Sit in a comfortable chair and add any necessary elements to ensure an environment conducive to productive study.

Distance learning education is an excellent way to improve job skills while opening a door to new job opportunities. However, success depends on the individual. With hard work, determination and the discipline to stay on track and maintain good study habits, academic excellence is within sight, without relocating and sacrificing job and family.

Get help and resources on accredited distance learning education degrees including online bachelor degrees for your educational purposes.

Distance learning students and those pursuing online degree programs seem to enjoy the best of everything. They get their education without actually needing to attend classes physically, and at the same time are able to keep their jobs and get a paycheck. In fact, this is one of the more prominent distance learning benefits that attract many students to make this their choice of education. In addition to that, distance learning students also gain the advantage of flexibility where they are able to study at their own pace without adhering to class schedules.

However, even learning online is not perfect. It requires a lot of discipline to stay on task and keep personal priorities straight. As a learner, you must be intrinsically motivated to succeed. Without the in-class interaction between peers and the professor, it is more difficult to keep focused on the ultimate goal.

Then, how can online students stay focused and overcome the challenges of learning from home? First, time management skills are essential. With only so many hours in the day, it is important to make time for work and family, and still have enough hours to adequately study the courses. Make a plan and stick to it. Let the family participate in your success. Let everyone know what your hours are dedicated to learning without interruption. Without a schedule, obtaining a distance learning education will be extremely difficult.

Another important aspect of a distance learning education is to stay in touch with classmates and instructors through email, instant messenger, college discussion boards or Internet calling. Discuss projects and assignments with peers who can help you stay focused by holding you accountable, and providing motivation and encouragement whenever needed.

In addition to peer contact, rewarding personal education goals is an excellent way to stay motivated and succeed in obtaining a distance learning education. Write particular course milestones on a calendar, and then celebrate the achievement. For example, after turning in a major paper, do something nice for yourself. Then, cross out each accomplishment. With a sense of personal satisfaction, it will keep you motivated to face the next educational hurdle.

Finally, make sure to have a quiet, undisturbed place to study. It is extremely easy to be distracted by the television, a ringing phone, or normal family activities in the household. If necessary, lock yourself in a quiet room equipped with a comfortable chair, a good desk or table, and ample space to create a productive learning environment.

Distance learning education is an excellent way to improve job opportunities and acquire a desired degree. However, success depends on the individual. With hard work, determination and the discipline to stay on track and maintain good study habits, academic excellence is within sight, without relocating and sacrificing job and family.

More mid-career adults are now enrolled in online degree programs than ever in history. With the current ultra-competitive job market and speedily emerging technology, that’s easy to understand.

What does surprise people, though, is the number of traditional age folks opting for online education. To some people, that is tougher to understand.

Why have so many 18-24 year old students decided to pursue an online degree instead of choosing the more traditional alternative?

First of all, many traditional age students need to work. And, it is very difficult to work and get a good schedule of on-campus classes. There are no such scheduling problems for those who attend an online college. They can do their coursework whenever they wish, day or night.

Next, there is the issue of flexibility. Traditional college programs rarely allow students to accelerate the pace at which they can earn a degree. Conversely, online colleges frequently offer accelerated degree options. Some enable students to earn a bachelors degree in as little as two years.

Also, online degree programs are generally cheaper than traditional college and university programs. And, many online institutions of higher education offer tuition installment plans.

Finally, the widespread acceptance of online degrees is influencing more and more traditional age college students to choose online education. Today, almost all employers value an online degree as much as they do a traditional one. Many are especially eager to hire a student with the goal-orientation strong enough to earn a degree while working.

While it’s true that students pursuing higher education online miss out on campus life, more and more 18-22 year olds are willing to trade it for the flexibility, and low cost online degree programs offer.

For the most part, 18-24 year olds choose online education for the same reasons as students many years their senior. And, most educators expect the trend to continue.

by Daniel Kane

United States Department of Labor 2004 statistics reveal that full time workers 25 years of age and older earn a median weekly salary of $676. Those without a high school diploma average nearly $300 a week less ($396). High school graduates with no college average $562, and college graduates holding at least a bachelors degree earn nearly $1000 weekly.

Workers with graduate degrees earned $1,149 per week, about $220 more than those with bachelors degrees only.

Several other surveys indicate that the Department of Labor reports understate the differences in income by educational level. In fact, it is often reported by reliable researchers that the lifetime earnings differential between high school and college graduates exceeds $1,000,000. And, most economic and labor experts believe that the earnings gap between high school and college graduates will grow significantly in future years.

The Washington Research Council predicts that, “higher education will become increasingly important for landing high paying jobs”, and that good jobs will require higher and higher levels of education in the future.

In addition, well educated workers will continue to be better protected against unemployment, overseas outsourcing, and increasing worldwide competition than their less educated colleagues. But, higher incomes and better job security are only two of the benefits of higher education.

College graduates, overall, are happier with their jobs and careers than are other workers. That’s because the better educated a worker is, the more likely he or she will qualify for promotions and/or new career opportunities. It stands to reason that people who are not trapped in dead end jobs will experience higher job satisfaction.

All available evidence points to the conclusion that bachelors and graduate degrees open the doors to substantially higher earnings, increased employment options, job advancement and job satisfaction. As more employers seek educated workers, as more workers realize the benefits of education, and as financial aid has become available to traditional college students and adults seeking online degrees, the number of college students, including working adults, continues to soar.

Whether earned online or on campus, in a part time program or a full time program, a college degree has never been worth more than it is today.

Distance education has come a long way since it was first developed in the 1700′s when weekly course assignments were passed out by horsemen messengers in a very small area of Boston. In the 19th century correspondence courses got a serious boost when the Postal Service was established and college courses could be completed in a matter of six to ten years. That was a major boon to Victorians looking to advance their education. It got even better when airplanes came and started express mailing assignments.

Today we do it in real time! Distance education like many other disciplines has come into its own with the advancement of the internet and computers. With the lightning speed of the internet and the well heeled platform of Web 2.0 attending an online university has come a long way since the 1700′s or even the 19th century. Forget 6-10 years or even 4-5 years, you can pretty much get your degree anytime you want.

The flexibility of online courses has put you in the driver’s seat. You can work as hard as you want or take your time depending on your situation but one thing remains true, you can get a quality education and achieve a higher degree that is just as marketable from an online college as a traditional one.

Your career options will become much more accessible and varied because of your education. No matter which type of degree you seek, or what level of education you’re after, your degree will show that you’re committed to your career choice. There are online programs for all levels of education, which will be a great tool to add to your arsenal. After all, you need everything you can to get the career that you want in today’s society, and online education is sure to help.

You don’t have to worry about the hassle of moving or commuting to a traditional campus, and the possibilities of what you can do with an online degree are basically endless. You can work anywhere you like, as long as you’ve got a computer. Also, the online education programs are much more affordable than traditional college or university educations.

Distance education is not a new concept. However, the advances in technology have made it much more accessible and convenient than ever before, which has increased its popularity. Many people turn to online education on a daily basis as a way to advance or jump start their careers. Since it’s affordable and convenient, online education is great for anyone who wants to pursue it. You can even enroll in an online program and start your education right now.

Are you a career person limited by your current education and need to earn a higher degree to get promoted? Worried that you may not find a program that will fit your personal and financial needs? Well, no more worries are needed. Here are some excellent resources to help you get started in locating and financing the degree program you need to get ahead in life and at work.

Since the advent of the Internet, there are five times as many colleges and universities offering distance and virtual learning programs. This has made it easier and cheaper for working adults to find ways to complete their educations or seek advancement in their occupations. Many more career minded individuals than ever are taking online classes. There are many to choose from, ranging from skill-enhancing certificate programs to advanced degree programs up to doctorate level. These may overwhelm you at first, but they don’t have to if you know where to start.

Once you get serious about wanting to start a degree program online, you may want to check out resources found online where you can search for programs and other helpful information to get started. There are a multitude of programs to choose from, so take your time to learn all you can before you decide what will work best for you. Remember, each college has advisors there to help you with questions.

Fortunately for you, online education is generally less expensive than regular college because you are taking classes from the comfort of your home computer. Course instructors are more than likely teaching several subjects and they are also teaching from their home offices. This cuts down on having to fully staff a brick and mortar college or university. Savings are passed onto students this way.

Learning in the virtual classroom is enhanced by the interactive, low student to instructor ratio and the millions of resources found on the Internet. In just seconds, information can be shared and students respond in an online classroom, interactively and by sharing information. The classes are generally more flexible so that students can study and participate when they are at their peak learning ability.

As long as the college is accredited by an institute of higher learning, there are many resources available to help students pay their tuition. Students can take advantage of student loans, federal grants, or scholarships to fund their education.

By using the hints above, you will be on your way to getting that education you’ve always dreamed about, at a fraction of what you’d pay at a traditional college and in some cases a lot faster.

As the demand for the online Bachelor degree rises, so do the number of fake colleges and universities. Some actually offer diplomas for sale to potential customers through bulk emails. However, many take advantage of innocent and unsuspecting students by offering lower than normal tuition fees, credit for life experiences, no tests, and an easy road to that coveted diploma. If it sounds too good to be true, it generally is the case.

Unfortunately, it can be difficult for aspiring students to differential between a real online Bachelor degree and the one that is not worth the paper on which it is printed. Most students are seeking an online education because they do not have the ability to attend classes on campus. In addition, many simply live too far away-even overseas. Therefore, the only criterion for determining a school’s validity is the website. Important decisions are made on whether the site looks professional and seems to offer the right education; but, that is no way to judge whether a college is credible or not.

The first thing to do is to verify the type of accreditation the college claims to have. Only 6 government agencies have been given the authority by the U.S. Department of Education, to award accreditation to colleges and universities offering online Bachelor degrees. Therefore, if a site brags about worldwide or nationwide accreditation, beware. Unless they specifically name the agency, chances are they are not a legitimate institution of higher education.

The six accreditation agencies given the authority to grant college and university accreditation are entrusted with governing the institutions within their geographical section of the United States as follows: New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), North Central Association of Schools and Colleges (NCA), Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges (MSA), Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges (NWCCU). With specific states for each agency, it is easier to check whether an online learning facility is accredited and registered.

Another important clue to illegitimacy is mass-emails or mail offering degrees for sale. There are cases of online Bachelor degrees, Masters, or even online Doctorate degrees being obtained by a fixed tuition rate. Some bogus colleges even have the audacity to promise a degree in the mail within 7 days. These unethical businesses take advantage of people who must have a degree in order to get a decent job, or keep the one they have in the first place. However, others take big steps to appear above board and genuine. Displaying evidence of accreditation from a bogus website makes the “school” look real. But, unless one of the 6 authorized agencies is mentioned, it may not be an accredited school. In addition, the only way to earn a college degree is by honest hard work and dedication. If a site offers credit for life experiences, travel, work experience, educational background, or even the amount of books read in the past, rest assured it may not be an institute dedicated to qiality, legitimate and excellent learning.

In short, with the plethora of bogus degrees already causing employers to question online education, make sure your online Bachelor degree is earned from a college or university accredited by one of the six agencies endorsed by the U.S. Department of Education.
